#Portugal first elected as Best European Destination
The country has won 37 awards in those who are considered the Oscars of Tourism, the World Travel Awards.
We are already more than accustomed to winning international tourism prizes – whether by the lifestyle of Lisbon and Porto, the northern or Alentejo landscapes or the beaches that many consider paradisiacal – but this is special.
For the first time, Portugal was considered the Best European Destination in those who are considered the Oscars of tourism, the World Travel Awards. The results were announced this Saturday, September 30, at a ceremony in St Petersburg, Russia.
In addition to Portugal, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Norway, Italy, Austria, Greece, Ireland, Spain, Turkey, Sweden, and Switzerland were nominated for the prize.
In total, Portugal was the country that received the most awards – 30% of them all. There were 37 prizes, 13 more than last year. For the moment, only the results are known at a European level. The vote that puts Portugal in competition with countries from other continents runs until October 30.
